The Winners of d3 Housing Tomorrow 2014 - Bustler

d3 has just announced the winners of its annual Housing Tomorrow competition, a competition that urges its participants to "deploy innovative, socially- and environmentally-engaged approaches to residential urbanism, architecture, interiors, and designed objects" in order to determine "new architectonic strategies for living in the future."

Urban Forest was designed by architects Jieun Yang and Ji Young Kim. Urban Forest is a threshold where fast-paced urban life and the slow meandering of a natural oasis are extended and integrated. As a facilitator of public exchange and movement, the pavilion reflects the intimacy of bodily interaction and accentuates urban and community context.

EAST VILLAGE — A futuristic "urban forest" with tree trunks traded for mirrored poles and leaves replaced by translucent panels could be headed to an East Village park as a summer art installation.

New York City-based artists and architects Jieun Yang and Ji Young Kim have secured a spot in First Park, located between East First and Houston Streets near Second Avenue, for a futuristic Urban Forest as part of the 2013 Public Summer installation program, overseen by contemporary architecture group SUPERFRONT.
