PRAXES is a M/WBE certified architecture firm based in Brooklyn. We believe design can improve our everyday lives and transform them into something extraordinary. Praxes’ unique design approach comes from an innate understanding of human experience and the implementation of conceptual clarity through spatial and material innovations. We focus on expanding the reach of architecture through practice, education, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Our expertise has been in working on new construction and renovation of cultural, commercial, and residential projects in various sizes and scopes for public and private clients. We are dedicated to creating spaces where the client’s visions are executed. Praxes’ speculative and built proposals have been published in popular media, including the Guggenheim Lab, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, A|N Architect’s Newspaper, and The Korea Times.

Ji Young KIM, RA, Principal

Ji Young Kim, RA is the principal of the M/WBE certified architecture firm PRAXES based in New York City. The firm’s design-research is grounded in its commitment to expand spatial impacts by investigating social, cultural, and experiential aspects of the built environment and addressing them through smarter builds. PRAXES is working on new construction and renovation of institutional, commercial, and residential projects in various sizes and scopes for public and private clients.

Ji Young is also an educator. In addition to her professorship at Pratt Institute, she has taught at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and City University of New York. Her studios’ works have been recognized by the City of Newark, won an award from the Design-Build competition by the Masonry Contractors of New Jersey, and received the Donghia Foundation grant as a fellow of Pratt Institute. In addition to teaching, Ji Young’s academic research has been extended through publications, lectures, and community outreach initiatives.

JAY (JAEYOUNG) KIM, AIA, LEED AP, Director

With over 10 years of experience, Jaeyoung focuses on the dialogue between architectural form and urban space. His design approach is based on how the architecture reacts to its context through the material and structure with thoughtful attention to craft and detail. His portfolio includes a wide range of program types, informing his expertise in mixed-use, large-scale development. He has served as a visiting critic at NJIT and D3 international competitions. His design proposals have been exhibited and published globally including AIA Emerging Professionals 2013. Prior to joining PRAXES, he worked at Kohn Pedersen Fox in New York on mixed-use, retail, and hospitality projects, including Embankment Square in Shanghai and Asian Game Official Village in Hangzhou, China. He also worked at CWA in New York focusing on sustainable architectures. He received his B.Arch from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Master’s degree from Columbia GSAPP in 2012. Jaeyoung is a registered architect in New York and LEED Accredited Professional.
